Love Flourishes is the first season of In The Midst Of…, a web-based series celebrating trans love stories. Created by and for the trans community, In The Midst Of… celebrates our joy, humor, and everyday beauty.
Our Team
Kai Tillman: Creator, Director, Editor
Kai Tillman (he/they) is a trans non-binary award-winning filmmaker whose working-class roots and years of living on the fringe have shaped their approach to grassroots storytelling.
For over 14 years, Kai has worked across documentary, commercial, and narrative projects, on subjects ranging from protests to wild horse sanctuaries, top-secret labs to homeless shelters, capturing the full range of human experience.
In addition to their production work, Kai is an educator and mentor who teaches filmmaking workshops for houseless and marginalized youth.

There is such a clear need right now for positive, visual connection within the trans community. A reminder. A reflection. We need to see ourselves just being, outside of tragedy and outside of a transition narrative.
During this challenging moment in history with trans people being so heavily targeted, this series offers a pause. A small ray of sunshine. In the midst of it all, a chance to step away, even briefly, and witness fellow trans people being loved on, cherished, and loving in return.
